iPhone Self-Portraits (Series II)
These paintings are proxy self-portraits, which explore the nature of personal identity and the emotional resonance of music and technology. Based on screenshots of music I’m listening to on my iPhone, they begin to tell my story, becoming allegories for emotions and life events. The viewer can draw connections between different song titles and musicians in the paintings, constructing a narrative for themselves. Every song, like every artwork, resonates for a person in the context of their life. This narrative, however, will always remain somewhat elusive, being both explicit and obscure, personal yet veiled in screens both literal and figurative.
